prospects.
Tim Krumrie, the Bengals DL coach, is known as a killer on workouts. Hes
the type of guy who takes players to the wall and to the mat; he works them hard, and then
when theyre ready to throw up, he works them harder.
Krumrie worked out three defensive tackles: Georgias Richard Seymour and Marcus
Stroud and Floridas Gerard Warren. None of them had great workouts, but they all
managed to survive them without saying "uncle." Probably none of them moved up
or moved down much because of the workout. People were hoping Warren would be in better
shape and have a better workout. They were also hoping the Georgia tackles would do a
little bit better.
ProFootballWeekly.com: Krumrie isnt just doing this for the Bengals, correct?
Buchsbaum: Correct other teams are allowed to watch.
PFW: It seems surprising that players agents would allow these workouts. Why
would agents go along with allowing Krumrie to work out players?
Buchsbaum: Because if the other players do it and their player doesnt, it looks
bad. Its the type of situation where (these tackles) are in a jam because its
not a clear-cut pecking order at that position. If someone tried to do that to Michael
Vick, his agent could (safely) call a halt to it. If someone tried to do that to David
Terrell, his agent could do the same thing. But you have a lot of defensive tackles that
could go in different pecking orders (this year).
Justin Smith of Missouri had a fabulous athletic workout: 4.6s in the 40-yard dashes,
35-inch vertical, tremendous agility drill. But the question with him is play strength,
because hes got a thin lower body.
Kenyatta Walker just did position drills at Florida. He showed strong, explosive hand
punch.
Both S Adam Archuleta and TE Todd Heap ran very well at Arizona State. Archuleta ran
under 4.5, which really should help him, probably gets him into the second round, maybe
even the late first round. People will use him as a strong safety. Hes still a major
projection there, but he did play some in the Senior Bowl and hes got speed.
One interesting note about Carolinas QB situation: Three years ago, when George
Seifert was working for CBS, it was Quincy Carters freshman year at Georgia, and
Seifert fell in love with Carter. |
