Player printout: Draft rankings by position

What follows are Pro Football Weekly draft analyst Joel Buchsbaum’s draft rankings as of Jan. 14. These rankings are not meant to coincide with the actual selection of players. Instead, they are intended to predict the relative success of those players in their NFL careers.

 

Key to symbols in player printout

Acad — Due to academic reasons, this player’s eligibility is uncertain.
Age — Player is overaged.
DNP — Player did not play last season.
e — Statistics are estimated.
E-6 — Player has applied for extended eligibility, but the status of the decision was pending at presstime, making the player’s status uncertain.
Elig — This player’s draft eligibility has not been finally determined.
J-4 — Refers to the player’s year in school. In this example, the player would be a fourth-year junior. ("So" is a sophomore)
MI — More information needed to accurately grade player.
RB — Can also play running back (applies to other position abbreviations too, such as S for safety, H-b for H-back, RS for return specialist, P for punter, etc.).
X — Past or current injury could have an impact on where this player is drafted, according to at least one source. Due to the confidentiality of medical records, we cannot confirm or deny whether the injury problem is still a concern.
XX — More serious injury concern.
XXX — Definite injury concern.

 

Grade scale for NFL prospects

8.00 - 9.00 — Franchise player. (Any quarterback who grades over 7.50 is considered a potential franchise player.)
7.50 - 7.99 — Future All-Pro.
7.00 - 7.49 — Should become a Pro Bowl-caliber player.
6.50 - 6.99 — Has a chance to become a Pro Bowl-caliber player. In the case of quarterbacks, projects as a high-first-round pick because of the need for quarterbacks.
6.00 - 6.49 — Should become a quality NFL player with Pro Bowl potential.
5.50 - 5.99 — Has a chance to become a quality NFL player.
5.10 - 5.49 — Has a better-than-average chance to make an NFL roster.
5.01 - 5.09 — Has a slightly better than 50-50 chance to make a roster.
