The draft has several ironies, and very often one of the biggest factors in how teams
pan out with their selections is the luck of the draw.
Peyton Manning came very close to coming out one year early. If he had, he’d have
been the Rams’ first-round pick instead of Orlando Pace. The following year, if
Manning had already come out, all indications are the Colts — who said it was very
close between Manning and Leaf for the first pick — would have taken Leaf with the
first overall pick that year.
With Leaf, might the Colts still be down in the standings where they were when they
were picking first in the draft? |
