63. Philadelphia (from San Diego): DE Derrick Burgess, Mississippi
Buchsbaum says: Hes a very productive player who plays bigger than his size
because he plays with such good leverage. Just a solid football player, tough and intense.
Top of page
64. Arizona: S Adrian Wilson, North Carolina State
Buchsbaum says: Big, fast, physical safety who probably could have been a first-round
pick if he had stayed in school. Has a lot of upside but may not be ready yet.
Top of page
65. Cleveland: RB James Jackson, Miami (Fla.)
Buchsbaum says: A back whom Butch Davis coached in college and whom Davis likes a lot.
He can catch the ball.
Top of page
66. Cincinnati: TE Sean Brewer, San Jose State
Buchsbaum says: This was a surprising pick. Brewer is a great workout guy with a very
good 40-time who has had a hard time catching the ball in the past. Some people were
projecting him to a DL position, and he has played some defense in the past.
Top of page
67. San Diego (from Atlanta): CB Tay Cody, Florida State
Buchsbaum says: A guy who isnt as big as you d like or as fast youd like,
but a heck of a football player. Very feisty, with a winning attitude. Similar to a player
John Butler drafted two years in the first round for the Bills, Antoine Winfield.
Top of page
68. Chicago: OG Mike Gandy, Notre Dame
Buchsbaum says: Good football player who leaves you feeling he should be even better
than he is. With better workouts, he could have gone high in the second round.
Top of page
69. Minnesota (from New England): CB Eric Kelly, Kentucky
Buchsbaum says: Stocky, physical corner with excellent straight-line speed who
doesnt always play to that speed. He will struggle in coverage at times. He had some
very good workouts, and the Vikings like his upside very much.
Top of page
70. New Orleans (from Dallas): LB Sedrick Hodge, North Carolina
Buchsbaum says: Replacement for Mark Fields. He has all the measurables. Started to
make more plays as a senior but is not an inherently tough football player.
Top of page
71. Green Bay (from San Francisco): CB Bhawoh Jue, Penn State
Buchsbaum says: A big corner who Ron Wolf likes a lot. The Packers had him rated as a
solid second-round pick, and hes a big corner who will help them match up against
the teams in their division. He doesnt have great speed and got mixed reviews from
some teams, but the Packers were very high on him and had a second-round grade on him.
Top of page
72. Green Bay: LB Torrance Marshall, Oklahoma
Buchsbaum says: A flat-out steal in this spot, because he tested positive Big, fast
physical whose instincts seemed to catch up with his body this year. Plays the game with
great passion. Has tremendous speed and is a big playmaker.
Top of page
73. Jacksonville: LB Eric Westmoreland, Tennessee
Buchsbaum says: Terrific pick. Can start as a rookie. Excellent athlete with excellent
speed. Productive college player. A natural outside backer whos probably best-suited
to play on the weak side, which could be an indication somethings up with Kevin
Hardy.
Top of page
74. Carolina: WR Steve Smith, Utah
Buchsbaum says: Hes more of a specialist and a slot receiver than a starter.
Hes a very dangerous return man with exceptional quickness and very good speed.
Carolina wants to get its special teams back to where they were a few years ago, when they
were the best in the league.
Top of page
75. Kansas City: DT Eric Downing, Syracuse
Buchsbaum says: Not the biggest or fastest guy, but a solid football player who
competes and can play with leverage vs. the run. Hes the type who can play a little
bigger than his size, a little faster than his speed. A Dick Vermeil type of player with a
good work ethic and motor.
Top of page
76. Buffalo: DT Ron Edwards, Texas A&M
Buchsbaum says: Player who started out the year playing very well but then tailed off
and had a couple of good games late. The Bills had great luck with Pat Williams out of
Texas A&M, and they feel Edwards can develop into a similar type of player.
Top of page
77. Kansas City (from Washington): WR Marvin Minnis, Florida State
Buchsbaum says: Replacement for Kevin Lockett, a slot third receiver. Supercompetitive
and superproductive, but thin as a rail and not a burner. Chris Weinkes favorite
receiver as a senior.
Top of page
78. N.Y. Giants (from Detroit): CB William Peterson, Western
Illinois
Buchsbaum says: First-round talent who many clubs took off their boards or downgraded
because of character concerns. Big, fluid athlete with good hands and skills and who was
an upcoming star at Michigan before circumstances dictated that he leave school. Has had a
shaky background in terms of character, but he insists that he has turned his life around.
The Giants are either convinced of that, or else they feel that they can turn him around.
Top of page
79. N.Y. Jets: OT Kareem McKenzie, Penn State
Buchsbaum says: Could be a steal here. Has a chance to start at any one of four
positions on the offensive line. Needs to improve his work ethic but has a lot of physical
ability.
Top of page
80. San Francisco (from Green Bay): RB Kevan Barlow, Pittsburgh
Buchsbaum says: Really gifted back who is hot and cold. Doesnt play as well as he
practices. Had some sensational workouts at the Senior Bowl, where he appeared to be a
franchise back in practice but then laid an egg in the game. Has a chance to be a special
back if everything connects. He is the type of player the 49ers have had success with in
the past.
Top of page
81. New Orleans (from Indianapolis through Dallas): DT Kenny Smith,
Alabama
Buchsbaum says: Hot-and-cold player who has had moments when he was dominating. A poor
40-time hurt his stock, as did a poor senior year when he was coming off knee surgery.
Top of page
82. Seattle (from New Orleans through Green Bay and San Francisco):
RB Heath Evans, Auburn
Buchsbaum says: Probably the best big fullback in the draft. Catches the ball well and
runs hard. Has speed but will need some repetitions. Doesnt fully accept the fact
that hes a fullback after playing some tailback earlier in his career.
Top of page
83. St. Louis: LB Brian Allen, Florida State
Buchsbaum says: Fits the defense. Hes a run-hit type of linebacker who can play
any position. A good competitor.
Top of page
84. Tampa Bay: CB Dwight Smith, Akron
Buchsbaum says: Has a chance to develop into a good corner. Stocky, physical, strong.
Has good hands and good stopwatch speed. Not a big run-support guy. Has had some lapses in
concentration. A major underachiever until his senior year.
Top of page
85. Miami: RB Travis Minor, Florida State
Buchsbaum says: Very good complement for Lamar Smith in that hes basically a
third-down back who catches the ball very well. Much better against a spread-out defense
than a packed-in defense.
Top of page
86. New England (from Minnesota): CB Brock Williams, Notre Dame
Buchsbaum says: Very fast, athletic corner who doesnt have quite the size that
teams are looking for. Seemed to mature a lot last year at Notre Dame. Has a chance to
start across from Ty Law.
Top of page
87. Denver: DE Reggie Hayward, Iowa State
Buchsbaum says: Basically hes a guy who had a so-so senior year but then lit it
up at the Hula Bowl.
Top of page
88. Miami (from Philadelphia): LB Morlon Greenwood, Syracuse
Buchsbaum says: Speed-type linebacker who can run to the ball. Fine-character
individual. Four-year starter, very durable. Good special-teams player who can really run.
Top of page
89. Oakland: DE DeLawrence Grant, Oregon State
Buchsbaum says: Could be a steal here for the Raiders. Up-and-coming player with
tremendous workout numbers. Slightly undersized and probably doesnt play as fast as
his workout numbers would indicate.
Top of page
90. Tennessee: TE Shad Meier, Kansas State
Buchsbaum says: Solid tight end who was underutilized in college. Can do everything
pretty well but doesnt dominate in any area. Known as a stick-and-stay tight end in
that he doesnt knock his man off the ball but stays in front of him.
Top of page
91. Indianapolis (from N.Y. Giants): S Cory Bird, Virginia Tech
Buchsbaum says: Played a rover-type safety in college. Good straight-line speed. Good
competitor and hitter. He and Idrees Bashir give the Colts a lot more size, speed and
athletic ability than theyve had at safety the past few years.
Top of page
92. Baltimore: C Casey Rabach, Wisconsin
Buchsbaum says: Solid offensive lineman who can play guard or center. Not a great
athlete but a good football player. Gives the Ravens an inside option with the loss of
Jeff Mitchell.
Top of page
93. Dallas: DT Willie Blade, Mississippi State
Buchsbaum says: Flashes dominance but is very inconsistent. Has injury and character
concerns, but hes a huge man with very good quickness.
Top of page
94. Jacksonville: DB James Boyd, Penn State
Buchsbaum says: A playmaker and solid safety. A good football player who doesnt
look pretty doing things but makes plays nonetheless.
Top of page
95. Buffalo: OT Jonas Jennings, Georgia
Buchsbaum says: Received mixed reviews as a player. Light on his feet and athletic. A
plus athlete who needs to bend his knees and break down better at times. An efficient pass
blocker who can play any one of five positions on the offensive line. He completes a very
impressive first day for the Bills and one in which they added more picks for the second
day.
