Buchsbaum's draft observations

Reports that Warrick ran poorly tell only part of the story

Friday, March 17, 2000

There have been a number of reports recently about Florida State WR Peter Warrick's workout for NFL scouts. Prior to Warrick's workout, it was believed that there was a strong possibility he would be the first player taken in the NFL draft. The media reports about Warrick's workout have indicated that Warrick ran poorly for the stopwatches. While those reports are true, they tell only part of the story.

ProFootballWeekly.com asked contributing editor Joel Buchsbaum to put Warrick's workout into its proper context.

Q: Can you provide any insight into Peter Warrick's recent workout?

Buchsbaum: The thing that people are forgetting — everyone is reporting Peter Warrick's terrible time — but what happened was they were supposed to run outdoors. He had special outdoor shoes on to run on the surface they were going to run on. It rained heavily. They took him into a wood gym. He could not get traction, and he couldn't get a start with the shoes he was wearing.

Q: There have been some reports that other people from the team ran well, but they probably had the right shoes?

Buchsbaum: They had the right shoes.
