The following is a projection of how the first round of the NFL draft will go. We project a trade between Baltimore and Denver, with the Broncos moving up from the 10th overall pick to the fifth.

  3. Washington Redskins (from San Francisco) — OT Chris Samuels, Alabama

  5. Denver Broncos (from Atlanta through Baltimore in projected trade) — QB Chad Pennington, Marshall
  6. Philadelphia Eagles — DT Corey Simon, Florida State
  7. Arizona Cardinals — RB Thomas Jones, Virginia
  8. Pittsburgh Steelers — WR Plaxico Burress, Michigan State
  9. Chicago Bears — LB Brian Urlacher, New Mexico
  10. Baltimore Ravens (from Denver in projected trade) — RB Jamal Lewis, Tennessee
  11. New York Giants — RB Ron Dayne, Wisconsin
  12. San Francisco 49ers (from Carolina through Washington) — DE John Abraham, South Carolina
